Articles: Gaia Video Tutorial

Thursday, January 22, 2009 - 06:25 PM, (5120 Reads)

The Carbon Project is proud to release a series of videos that take you from Gaia installation to more advanced OGC and map styling features. Watch Nuke Goldstein, CTO of The Carbon Project, demonstrate Gaia including bits of the less known features (did you know Gaia supports GeoTagged images?) newcomers and advanced users may find helpful.

This four part video tutorial highlights Gaia's functionality including ability to work with various data types and sources, the advanced rendering and feature styling capabilities, and the robust support to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and services.

If you have a good internet connection, we recommend watching in HD quality. In this article we provide the link for each part of the tutorial both in regular and HD quality.

The first part shows how to download and install the application. The Gaia install file is just a little over 1MB in size, so the process is quick and easy.

The second part of the tutorial walks through the basic elements of the Gaia user interface. It shows how to add a map, edit a note, and save a map session as GSF.

The third part discusses the construction process of a map and how a feature layer is styled using Gaia's rendering and symbology.

The last part of this series dives a little deeper into the use of OGC data in Gaia. From using a GML file to accessing a WMS and WFS to using the Filter Builder tool.

We hope you find this tutorial helpful.
