The Carbon Project recently announced that its CarbonTools PRO, Gaia and ((Echo))MyPlace software now includes support for Microsoft Virtual Earth.
The Virtual Earth platform is Microsoft’s next-generation mapping and location service. It combines exciting new innovations including bird's-eye imagery, satellite and aerial imagery, map styles and usability as well as enhanced local search. CarbonTools PRO is an extension to the Microsoft .NET Framework that supports advanced location content handling and sharing.
“This is a great example of how the Virtual Earth platform can be used by third-party developers to include unique capabilities in their applications,” said Alex Daley, lead marketing product manager for Virtual Earth at Microsoft Corp.
“Bringing Microsoft Virtual Earth into CarbonTools PRO opens up a world of potential for software developers. The CarbonTools PRO extension to .NET lets developers quickly add complex geospatial data types and services, using a language that’s in the ‘comfort zone’ of mainstream programmers rather than GIS professionals,” said Nuke Goldstein, CTO and COO of The Carbon Project.
With CarbonTools PRO developers can combine consumer-oriented content like Microsoft Virtual Earth with traditional GIS sources like OGC’s GML, WMS, WFS, WCS, ESRI Shapefiles and more. So it’s now easy to mix and match location-based content and service types in a single application.
CarbonTools PRO with Virtual Earth is also the foundation of ((Echo))MyPlace, the first ever geosocial networking application that uses IPv6 based, peer-to-peer networking.
CarbonTools PRO features include - Gaia 3 source code, a powerful map symbology engine, tools for working online or offline with location content, geospatial notes, and a royalty-free license with no restrictions or fees on deploying applications.
